Review of Incident at Loch Ness (2004) by Edwin B — 30 Aug 2007
Great, great stuff. I admit I'm not terribly knowledgeable of Werner Herzog's stuff, but I know the stories. When I saw this sitting on the shelf when it first came out, it looked like a run-of-the-mill monster flick, but it's definitely much more.
It's a documentary about a documentary crew whose intended story changes into something much more than they anticipated. What's truly great about this is that it starts out appearing to be a real doc about Werner Herzog and other real Hollywood players working on a documentary together.
However, after a while it becomes clear that it's much more than that. Reality and fiction blur throughout, and the payoff is great. Sorta like a Charlie Kauffman film, but shot as a documentary. I recommend it.
