Review of Inception (2010) by Ben B — 31 May 2017
I want to say that I do not give five star ratings lightly and I believe that is true for most of my reviews. For Inception, I cannot help but giving it the highest rating. I found this film to be visually enthralling, well-acted, gripping action sequences, and a story that is intellectually stimulating.
Christopher Nolan was able to make this into a psychological action thriller and was able to balance all the elements extremely well. A dream within a dream within a dream and then limbo, the totem, the roles of the different team members.
.. Originality in a summer blockbuster to this extent is very rare! The standouts in the cast include Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Ken Watanable. DiCaprio immerses himself in the role and universe and makes Cobb into this leader tortured by his past, Hardy provides some humor and nonchalance with Eames, Gordon-Levitt is engaging and provides one of the best action scenes as Arthur, and Watanabe is welcome as always with Saito.
This film was refreshing and quite a big surprise to me and I sincerely hoped it is never stained by the need for a sequel. Christopher Nolan continues to do magic.
