Review of Incendies (2010) by Wendye K — 16 Dec 2011
What starts as a story of 2 grown children's realization that they have another brother and a father still alive somewhere, from the will of their mother, becomes much more than just a search for family.
Escape from a warzone, prisons, rebellion, religious blasphemy, rape, murder, and genocide. Just a few things their mother witnessed, which play by non-linear flashbacks. It's an intense movie to watch, and by the end will have you gasping at the outcome.
Certainly worthy of the best-foreign-language Oscar nomination, and if you get the chance, "The Making Of Incendies: Remembering The Ashes" may be just as powerful.
