Review of Incendies (2010) by Mike V — 13 May 2011
What I think makes this mystery powerful is the backdrop of horrific historic incidents through which the character of Nawal lived, and which are presented to us in flashback form. Certain fateful events and decisions with deeply disturbing implications are revealed to us over the course of the movie.
The Middle Eastern country where the events take place is never named, but it is presumably Lebanon or else a fictional Lebanon-like country. I am not entirely sure how I feel about the final few scenes of the movie, but overall I found this to be a powerful and compelling story from start to finish.
