Review of Incendies (2010) by Amilcar A — 30 May 2011
Almost anything I say will be a big spoiler for this movie so I will only focus on the therapy I will need after watching it. I am not necessarily what you would call conservative but this was pretty hard core.
Incendies is a great movie. I think it was better than all the other foreign oscar nominated movies - and this was a great year for international films.
Incendies is set somewhere in the middle east but the movie could have been anywhere; central america or eastern Europe would have done just as well.
This is a film for tortured souls. There is zero chance that you could ever be the same after going through what these people endured. In fact I bet this would be a good enough reason to go over the edge.
The only two criticisms I would make to this movie are that it's a bit too long and maybe at times rather slow. That said, it's still a phenomenal movie and worth every dollar. Including the possible years of therapy.
