Review of Incendies (2010) by Tayyab R — 11 Sep 2011
Ohkay.. where to begin? The film felt a bit of a drag at times, the basic plot of carrying out a deceased one's will seemed rather common in recent cinema-history while the thorns in the journey further made the feature verging on damp and hopeless at times. I was hoping that a little more attention be given to the twin-sibling relationship but as the ending proved, the last two Marvans were merely a tool - making the preview misleading.
The ending somehow artistically, not tastefully, made a seemingly simple sob-story into a tale that could take one at least a minute or two to reverse-engineer and come out of the movie theater having seen a completely different movie altogether. Safe to say the film cannot be watched over and over again.. but from no stretch of the imagination would that mean its not worth the 2hr 10min watch - Incendies is bound to stand out for a while, at least.
