Review of Incendies (2010) by Ce G — 13 Sep 2011
A decent film but no more than that and it feels like another case of a critically acclaimed film leaving me a little underwhelmed and cold. I can only think of Oldboy and Confessions as a comparison but it doesnt reach the eyeball itching shock levels attained by these.
Nawal has died and her daughter and brother attend the hearing of the will. They are given letters to give to their father (who they believed dead) and to their brother (who they didnt know existed). Jeanne (the daughter) then travels to the middle east to trace the history of her mother and a complex religious and political story is revealed.
The performances are good and the feel has an emotional feel and a very honourable mention to the use of Radioheads excellent "you and whos army" really seems to fit the mood and the scene.
