Review of Incendies (2010) by Edgar C — 08 Jul 2013
1 + 1 = 1.
No, it is not a reference to Tarkovsky's Nostalghia. Disguised as a story set in turbulent times about the quest of a pair of twins embarking on a revelatory journey to fulfill their mother's last request, at its core, Incendies is a story about an admirable woman. This woman had the honor of being a mother who always stuck to her principles and, breaking all possible multicultural frontiers that were creating a harsh reality, understood the indestructible force of family bonds and the most sacred love of them all: that of a mother towards her children.
At the end of the day, those unresolved equation variables add up to a probability of 1, because family is 1, and the harsh consequences of life itself add up to zero. Marvelous work of Denis Villeneuve who placed a big heart at the core of such powerful family testament, dedicating his film "to our grandmothers". We should admire our parents and ancestors for the history they have given us today, even if it is not perfect, because nobody is perfect.
97/100.
