Review of Incendiary (2008) by Monica F — 20 May 2009
Incendiary is a film with a sad story: the reality of terrorism today and how it affects the life of specific individuals. However, the mix of underlying stories and the lack of character?s background do not give this movie enough interest for the audience to hang on to.
There is a story of a failed marriage, the story of a starting affair, the story of a platonic love, the story of a beloved-terrorist father, and the main story of the mother who loses her son; none of which is fully told or developed.
There is not real telling of why any of the characters got to this point in life, so we can?t completely grasp their motivations for love, betrayal, or violence. We do know of the pain of being the only survivor of a family tragedy, but even this is kind of lost in all the hallucination and memory?s scenes which interrupt the reality flow of the mother?s struggle.
