Review of In Time (2011) by Tyler R — 14 Oct 2012
This is a frustrating film for so many reasons, primarily because it has such a great premise: In the future, humans are genetically altered to only live (and age) 25 years. After 25 years, they must earn time to keep living by working or other means.
A man from the ghetto goes on the run with a wealthy man's daughter in hopes of stopping the corruption withing the system. It sounds like a great idea for a film, but it is completely botched in "In Time".
The acting is decent to sub-par, with Justin Timberlake varying between good and terrible. Cillian Murphy gives the best performance, but that isn't saying much. Everyone else is simply meh. The effects also vary from good to terrible (Namely a horribly created car crash).
The plotting is also aggravating because the first 20 minutes or so are really good and promise a really good film. Unfortunately, after the first 20 minutes or so, the film decides to turn into a chase film, and not a very good one at that.
There never seems to be any rhyme or reason, let alone connection, to where our two heroes go. Then there is the ending. If there was ever an ending that literally did nothing, it was this one. No loose ends are tied up, no explanations are given, the ending just.
..happens. This was a film that had great potential to sit in the ranks with the great sci-fi films, but instead, it decided to spend it's time in the discount bin at Walmart.
