Review of In Time (2011) by Navin R — 18 Aug 2012
This movie is wild ride. It starts off like Gattaca, turns into The Great Gatsby, then into Robin Hood and finally into Bonnie and Clyde. This movie takes a hard look at the class struggle between the "haves" and "have nots" by using time as a form of currency. The poor are literally living day to day just to stay alive. The rich on the other hand can practically become immortal. This all changes when Will Salas receives a large sum of time from Henry Hamilton. What does Will do with his new found time, he gives it away to bring down the whole economic system.
First I would like to say, the overall plot is nothing new, we've seen this in done may times. I have to hand it to the writers for using time as a currency. It keeps you at the edge of your seat always wondering if a character will get enough time to live.
As far as acting goes, I was blown away by Justing Timberlake's performance. My expectations was that he could not bring anything to this role, but was wrong. JT did an excellent job at portraying the "everyman" that the audience can relate to. Amanda Seyfried was able to go from stuck up rich kid to revolutionary in a matter of seconds.
Overall, I'd say this is a must see. It's tough to just sit back and enjoy the movie. You tend to get easily pulled into the political meaning, but then again, that's probably the point of the movie.
