Review of In Time (2011) by Andrew K — 25 Jan 2013
It serves as further evidence that my tastes run drastically contrary to most critics. I have seen some terrible movies in my time. This is far from one of them. I put this in a category with other futuristic, contemplative concept films.
Films like "Gattaca", "Bicentennial Man", "I,Robot" and many others. Especially those that stylistically meld the future with the aesthetic of the golden age of the 20th century.
This movie is not without it's flaws, but it is visually striking and it explores a fascinating concept which encompasses the class system, corruption and the ruthlessness of greed. The trade of money for time is apt as well.
When stripping away all the specifics, what is it that we truly hope to attain by earning money. Time, freedom and happiness. Many of the wealthy among us are just as wrong in the assumption that money equals happiness as the wealthy of this film are with relation to living forever.
Longevity does not give a life worth. It is what one chooses to do with what they have that means something.
