Review of In Time (2011) by Daniel H — 29 Sep 2013
I almost didn't watch this movie due to critics reviews. Glad I did. I found it clever, stylish, and packed with concept. It was clear a lot of thought was put into how a society would function with time as currency and immortality within one's grasp.
There may have been too much concept for many of people to pick up on. I'm sure I missed as much as I caught. I actually prefer this, as I'm sick to death of in-your-face dumbed down movies that make sure everyone "gets it".
However, I'm sure the heavy concept probably lost quite a few people as well. This probably would work really well as a series because of the multitude of plot devices that could be used to advance and reinforce the concept.
For instance, they barely touched on the fact that unlike our society, life isn't worth all that much. Basically, the reactions of the actors to death was the only clue to this that I picked up on.
That being said, I also thought it was a fun popcorn movie. It's definitely worth seeing. I'd love to see this concept expanded upon.
