Review of In the Valley of Elah (2007) by Ariel A — 29 May 2010
To me, this is one of those completely underrated films that will only gain appreciation as time goes on. Why it was so poorly received in the box office, I have no idea, but this film is truly a film to behold.
The acting is top notch in the picture, each providing such moving, and at times heart-breaking performances that truly capture the pain and loss that war can cause. Also, the story is more than just the typical KIA remorse story as it is set in the confines of a mystery as a father tries to uncover what happened to his son.
Paul Haggis, who might be best known for his Best Picture winner Crash, to me delivers another wonderful film that might very well be on par with the aforementioned Crash despite it's utter lack of box office success and little known existance from the common movie fan.
Definitely seek this one out!
