Review of In the Valley of Elah (2007) by Richard S — 18 May 2010
A well intentioned message movie. As a drama and murder-mystery, it holds your interest and works quite well. Tommy Lee Jones is an excellent actor, and he does not disappooint here. The surrounding cast all puts forth a commendable effort.
The only 2 complaints I have are the following: the depressing tone of the entire film, and that its a bit heavy handed about delivering a political message at the very end (the upside down flag). The story does not pretend to offer any solutions to the problem, it just lays it all out there and its for the viewer to absorb and respond in their own way; a sobering film.
