Haggis turns his eye to war after nabbing an Oscar for his previous look at race relations (Crash).

The story and acting is top notch generally, however, on one hand the film avoids facing the real problem of war and how they are entered into; the whole issue of politics, history and our nature, but it's a film so I wouldn't have gone into that quagmire either. The other thing is that even though Jones raises his regular flag at the end, other than a state of sombre shock, one isn't really left with much to chew on at the end. War is atrocious, we all know that et the film reinforces this view, we see the cost to family et humanity generally, we all kinda know this, nut the positive is that it takes balls to say this while that very same war is still going on.

A mixed bag, courageous and certainly a film to watch, full marks;not quite.
