Review of In the Valley of Elah (2007) by Jakek. — 08 Oct 2007
It's refreshing to finally see a movie willing to truthfully and poignantly examine the divide between the soldiers fighting in Iraq and the people they come home to. Paul Haggis manages to tell a devastating story without resorting to sentimentality or sensationalism.
"In the Valley of Elah" is must-see viewing for anyone still picturing this war from a black-and-white moral perspective. Tommy Lee Jones puts in a perfect restrained performance, framed beautifully by Roger Deakins' equally understated photography.
I should note that I almost skipped this one because I disliked "Crash" for being so overbearing.
