Review of In the Realms of the Unreal (2004) by Monkeybird — 27 Sep 2008
The subject of this movie, the recluse writer-artist-janitor Henry Darger, would challenge any filmmaker... and unfortunately Yu isn't really up to the challenge. some things (like animating Darger's works, narrating of personal diaries, etc.) are done well, but then the documentary is undone by poor photography, awkward edits and terribly boring talking head interviews.
This film should be watched by those unfamiliar with Darger's work. his world is fascinating, this film is not.
