Review of In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale (2007) by Warren C — 29 Aug 2009
Possibly the best film by Uwe Boll yet, which is like saying "possibly the most pleasant root canal you've ever had." Boll managed to get some real talent for this one and unsurprisingly they go to waste. I don't know what Boll promises actors with name recognition to be in his films, because by now you'd think they would stay far away... but he gets them.
The plot is simple enough to follow, the action is actually pretty decent and the special effects are decent enough. You could do worse for a sword & sorcery flick, which is not something I ever thought I would write about a Boll film.
Statham brings a no-nonsense attitude to his character, while Reynolds seems to be smirking at a joke only he can hear. The only performance that was truly bad was Lilard's, but he didn't have much to work with. All in all, this is not a movie I am glad I saw but it's not a movie I regret seeing.
