Review of In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale (2007) by Orren J — 18 Jul 2009
I going to say watch but bring a friend who can enjoy a laugh. Make sure this friend has seen all of the following: Lord of the Rings (all of them), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, 300, and many other fantasy.
This movie pulls a lot of the same archetypes, storyline, VFX, and camera shoots. A lot of the camera shoots (cinematography) had a Lord of the Rings fell. The battle at the end reminded me of the battle between Lord Voldemort and Dumbledore at the end of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Some battle sequence and speech had a 300 quality. For an Indie film it had an all star cast: Jason Statham (Snatch), Leelee Sobieski (The Glass House), John Rhys Davies (Lord of the Rings), Ray Liotta (Wild Hogs), Burt Reynolds (The Longest Yard), Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo).
It was over the top and fairly cheesy but it is one of the best ?B? movies.
