Review of In the Name of the Father (1993) by Drew S — 10 Feb 2008
God, could this get any more depressing? I popped in the disc at 1 AM, intending to watch the first half hour and then go to sleep, but forced myself to finish the rest because I didn't want to go to sleep with all the awful things that happen in the movie weighing on my mind.
Those were scary times. Anyway, this movie actually made me like The Shawshank Redemption less by proxy, simply because it outdoes it in every possible way - except for a kind of crappy ending. The last ten minutes felt like a shitload of plot elements shoehorned in, and they should have been distended a little more. The rest of the movie is basically flawless, though. Especially Daniel Day-Lewis. I know he is fifty years old but I still want to bang him. Age is just a number.
