Review of In the Name of the Father (1993) by Josh C — 04 Dec 2008
Day-Lewis is as good as always but Pete Postlethwaite steals the show. The problem I had with this film was that the story was highly dramatized by Hollywood to the point that it was no different than a generic "innocent man ges to jail" plot.
The actual historical events are so interesting and politically charged, especially in the United States where we have dabbled with anti-terrorism laws (ie Guantanamo and the USA Patriot act), that this film could have been a lot better.
This flaw though no doubt come from its date, 15 years ago was not in a post 9/11 world. It is worth watching because of Day-Lewis' unbelievable acting talent; but don't expect to love the film.
