Review of In the Name of the Father (1993) by Sandra S — 22 Apr 2009
The movie shows a father and a son coming to an intimate understanding of each other through shared sufferings. All these sufferings began when n IRA bomb explodes, killing people in Ireland. And the police was forced, by public demands for justice, to turn to the most likely suspects without regard for their guilt or innocence.
So Gerry, played by Daniel Day-Lewis, and his friend Paul became the prime targets mainly because they were two poor guys whom just arrived in London from Belfast. However, the movie sharpen this political theme focusing on how those historical events impact on the relationship between Gerry and his father.
