Review of In the Mouth of Madness (1995) by Mike H — 07 Dec 2007
Although not directly based on, this film draws heavily from the works of H.P. Lovecraft, one of the greatest horror writers of all time. Directed by John Carpenter, this film delves into obsession and madness.
Focused on John Trent (Sam Neill), an insurance fraud investigator, we go in search of Sutter Cane, the world's best-selling horror novelist. Cane's work centers on things that go bump and madness (much like Lovecraft) and have sold ".
..more than the Bible. You can forget about Stephen King." Soon, the line between fiction and reality begins to blur as Trent finds himself inside a Sutter Cane novel. Not so much in-your-face scares as a general, overall creep factor, this movie is one of my favorite horror movies of all time.
Very underrated. Check it out, brave the descent into madness.
