Review of In the Mouth of Madness (1995) by Victor D — 12 May 2008
I love HP Lovecraft inspired material so when I found out that carpenter was paying an homage to Lovecraft it felt like a hook up made in heaven. Very creepy, moody and a capable and classy Philip Marlowe sort of portrayal by Neill as a private dick for an insurance company make the film gel.
Julie Carmen is unbearable to watch though. And her chemistry with neill is all wrong as she just turns in a wooden and plodding performance. Lots of creepy scares throughout as we are slowly pulled into the Lovecraftian horror at Hobb's End.
look for a young Hayden (anakin skywalker)Christensen in a bit role.
