Review of In the Mouth of Madness (1995) by Paul B — 17 Mar 2011
Not as good as The Thing or Christine but it was one of the better John Carpenter movies for me. The soundtrack was classic Carpenter stuff and the scares are mostly jumps instead of an overall feeling of tension but it's still ok, the make up in places is great but the acting not so much, Sam Neil camps it up beyond belief, but it's still a good watch.
The only downfall is the point where it runs out of story and then turns into an old twilight zone episode with the driving loop scene or the breaking the fourth wall and having Sam Neil watching the start of the movie in a cinema, which you could argue is because he's gone completely mad but it's mentioned that it is in theatres now in the story so who knows.
Still liked it a lot though.
