Review of In the Mood for Love (2000) by Eduardo D — 18 Nov 2010
A solid film that I think very easily gets lost in its stylishly simplistic story. how do people cope with the many types of infidelity in their lives? one one level, there are the woman's boss and the man's friend and co-worker.
on the next, there are their respective spouses. finally, they must confront the tempting possibility of their own infidelity. these two incredibly lonely people find brief comfort in each other, but ultimately they both move on with their lives, presumably no more or less happy than they were to begin with.
with its repetitive musical motifs, choppy editing style, and prolonged moments of contemplative silence or very brief dialogue, this film lulls you in and ultimately leaves you wanting more, questioning where you've been and a lot of what's happened.
presumably an accurate summary of the film's view on love...
