Review of In the Mood for Love (2000) by Gabriel A — 17 May 2012
In the mood for boredom? Beautiful cinematography and nice music during the abusive use of the slow motion scenes. The movie may be a must-see for cinema students because of it's compositions in the shots, the colors, the lighthing and the technical stuff BUT the movie is WAY too long, it should've been a short film.
The story never evolves from the "impossible love story" status we see at the beginning. Wong Kar Wai shows us some repetitive scenes that take us nowhere. Quite frankly, I'd recommend to watch other better films with similar themes such as Resnais' Hiroshima mon amour or Lean's Brief Encounter or Visconti's El Notti Bianche.
