Review of In the Loop (2009) by Chris D — 24 May 2014
Wildly hilarious and haphazard: the dialogue is so sharp between the characters here it's almost impossible to keep up with all the references and side-shots. Gandolphi is the only one who seems to bring any sense of dignity to a thoroughly undignified group of trolls and other assorted monkeys (all members of the U.S. and UK government, of course). Not as "black" of a comedy as I expected...and that might be more a sign of the sad times we live in, when it's not longer possible to distinguish between parody politics and the "real thing".
I think some reviewers are taking it all too seriously: the main point of the film is just how futile the whole affair is...and the ones who actually are physically impacted by this "war" are never present. It's clowns being clowns, nothing more.
