Review of In the Line of Fire (1993) by Ben D — 19 Aug 2012
Wolfgang Petersen's 1993 thriller has quite a reputation. Garlanded with praise, and with Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor John Malkovich, Best Screenplay for Jeff Maguire and Best Film Editing for Anne V.
Coates, it has been, for some reason, one of those films I just never got around to watching at the time. Almost twenty years after its release, In The Line of Fire is still a taut thriller, though some of its elements are a little dusty now.
It is odd watching pre-Internet thrillers now - this film would look very different today. The one element I didn't buy into was the romance between Eastwood and Russo, but it still a small point in an otherwise effective, but now looking fairly routine, thriller.
