Review of In the Land of Blood and Honey (2011) by Noise B — 31 Mar 2012
As a Sarajevo siege survivor I am personally familiar with the conflict this film is based on.
Many reviewers from the balkan will probably concentrate on the political side of things which I will completely ignore for this review.
The issue I have is mainly with the story. The characters were very undeveloped and I felt no emotional attachement with the main characters. The story telling was erratic and half away trough the movie I had no idea where the story was headed, but not in a good way.
The story of the conflict in Bosnia is I think an important one to tell. This movie attempts to convey the atrocities committed by Bosnian Serbs during the conflict but it does so unconvincingly. I can honestly say that I almost see where the movie was headed but it was just very poorly executed.
For some truly great films about this conflict watch: The Perfect Circle or No Man's Land.
Another film I can recommend which concentrates more on the woman suffering in this conflict: Grbavica: The Land of My Dreams.
