Review of In the Land of Blood and Honey (2011) by Vitria W — 13 Feb 2012
In looking through other reviews on RT, I'm noticing that almost all the negative reviews are negative because they are upset that the film is "antiserbian." They just seem angry that the Serbians are portrayed as purveyors of genocide. But most of these negative reviews say nothing specific about the film itself, which makes me wonder whether they've actually seen it. It also kind of makes me wonder if many of the reviews might be from the same person or the same few people? At any rate, it's all kinda sketchy.
Anyway, this was a truly amazing film. The trailer makes it seem like a romance, but it's NOT a romance, not really. It's about a woman trying to survive a genocide, and a man who is perpetuating it. Jolie did a masterful job of incorporating historical info seamlessly into the plot. It's not a movie for the weak-hearted, as there are myriad rape and shooting scenes, but overall it's just an incredibly moving look at how people behave during wartime.
