Review of In the Land of Blood and Honey (2011) by Josh M — 13 Jul 2012
I think many who saw this film and disliked it must have not grasped the fact that the point of the romance in this film was to excavate the ironies and tension of relationships among warring peoples who were once neighbors, who were once enemies, who were once neighbors.
Who can understand war? What sense does it make? This film brings that jarring, throbbing, perplexing question to life before our eyes. We are all flesh and blood, we all hunger, we long for love and warmth and yet, not everyone behaves as human beings, not everyone recognizes that our own right to worth hangs on our mutual ability to recognize it in one another.
