Review of In the Heat of the Night (1967) by Billy O — 04 Mar 2008
At a point in time when the world was advocating "Free Love, Peace + Harmony" - this film is a stark reality check on the real prejudices and injustices of the day; that were also an integral part of the 'decade of change'.
The qualities of Poitier + Steiger really come to the fore with strong + measured acting performances, as they portray the old facing up to the new. It should be remembered that it was a brave film to make at a time with civil unrest and racial tension rife.
With a haunting theme song, it is to be viewed also as one of historical note.
