Review of In the Heat of the Night (1967) by Nicholas P — 31 Mar 2008
Excellent cop drama in a Southern town. Doesn't get too preachy. Rod Steiger and Sidney Poitier are amazing as the sheriff and the detective passing through town, as they butt heads and slowly learn to respect each other.
Warren Oates is also great as a small town cop. It may not have deserved Best Picture over The Graduate and Cool Hand Luke, but it is a damn good movie and gripping throughout.
