Review of In the Heat of the Night (1967) by Yury M — 27 Apr 2008
Sheriff: "I got the motive which is money and the body which is dead.".
In the Heat of the Night is not only an important movie for the way that it deals with racism in America, but it is also a great thriller. It starts out as a typical drama of a wrongly accused man, of intolerance and prejudice but very soon begins to throw twists and turns at the viewer. My favorite aspect of the movie was the development of friendship between the local sheriff, brilliantly portrayed by Rod Steiger, and the main character, an out-of-town black detective, also very nicely depicted by Sidney Poitier. Norman Jewison created an ageless American detective thriller.
