Review of In the Heat of the Night (1967) by Michael B — 01 Sep 2008
Norman Jewison really managed capture and intertwine this murder mystery with the racist tensions of the mid 60's. I heard that they didn't even film this in the deep south as intended due to racial sensitivities.
Sidney Poitier plays as stoic as a character as he ever has yet still possess's this realistic fear its really brilliant work particularly considering the date this was made. Without Sidney's unique pioneering character interracial romance couldn't exist on screen.
He is kind of like Jackie Robinson of the screen.
