Review of In the Heat of the Night (1967) by James M — 24 Sep 2013
A true classic of cinema, winning the Best Picture Oscar in a very competitive year.
Sidney Poitier plays a homicide detective who finds himself investigating a murder in a small Mississippi town populated with bigots, including the Chief of Police Bill Gillespie (an excellent performance from Rod Steiger).
Personally, I'd have preferred The Graduate or Cool Hand Luke to win the 1967 award for Best Picture, but this is still an excellent movie.
