Review of In the Heat of the Night (1967) by Alex A — 19 Oct 2013
Anchored by a great script, Norman Jewison's solid direction and the chemistry between Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger, In the Heat of the Night is a smart, funny and energetic crime film that examines racism and bigotry in the American south.
Thankfully, unlike many of Spike Lee's films, in the Heat of the Night is able to get its point across without being too preachy or pretentious and is able to balance itself with just the right amount of humour and drama.
It's definitely one of Norman Jewison's best films and it's probably one of the better movies I've seen in the last few weeks.
