Review of In the Heat of the Night (1967) by Joel A — 06 Apr 2010
Such a fantastic film!! Poitier and Steiger where just out of this world. It deals with racism so well and in a depth many other films fail to reach. Both characters in the film are so complex in there own rights which makes there struggle that extra bit enjoyable. Poitier truly has a presence and so does Steiger there is a lot of unspoken acting, real emotion.
Also another major strength of this film other than the performances is the film's focus, it doesn't rely on style or a particular look. It just tells the story it needs to and works on a really human element. Great honest characters in an ugly, silly world of racism. A must see cinema classic, a real gem in 60's cinema...
