Review of In the Heat of the Night (1967) by L M — 17 Mar 2009
At the time of its release, this motion picture was groundbreaking for a number of reasons. Today, it remains, in my opinion, one of the most culturally significant motion pictures of our time. Sidney Poitier's immortal performance as Virgil Tibbs, as well as his utterance of the famous Mr.
Tibbs line, make this picture one of my all-time favorites. Norman Jewison, the great director himself, sadly lost out on the award for Best Director, but this picture, amongst others, showcases his brilliance, as well as the brilliance of the late Rod Steiger.
