Review of In the Heart of the Sea (2015) by Kris P — 10 Dec 2015
"In the Heart of the Sea" tells the full tale of the story of "Moby Dick." As the original writer of the novel visits one of the last remaining survivors of the vessel, he explains in great details of the trials and trebulations the crew went through.
While this is more of a survival story rather than the action-packed whale-fighting film it promises from the trailers, it is still a serviceable film, with great emotion and characters. Aside from that, sadly this film feels a little hollow.
Chris Hemsworth and Tom Holland are the standouts as the first in command and the youngest on the ship. The visuals here are excellent and I admired them like crazy, but everything else felt "watered-down.
" In the end, it really is just your average survival story with some good character moments and great visuals, which has been done better many times before. If you want to see a movie in the theatres and there is nothing better playing, then you will not hate yourself for watching it.
I had some fun with this film, but it is almost too dark and dull-looking at times to get excited. Ron Howard definitely has his stamp on this film, and I am not quite sure that is the best thing this time around.
In the end, it is an enjoyable film, but not a very memorable one.
