Review of In the Heart of the Sea (2015) by Rhonda S — 12 Dec 2015
Go see In the Heart of the Sea. Despite what the box office would have you think, it's a wonderful movie. The brutality and horror of the whaling industry, seaman's parlance, and a variety of odd accents, not the least of which is Chris Hemsworth trying to sound like a New Englander, are what are probably killing this movie.
The story is riveting. It makes you wonder all sorts of things. A great springboard to reading and discovering more about Herman Mellville, Moby Dick, whale behavior, the whaling industry, sea voyages in the late 1800's, and the book that inspired the movie of the same name.
Go see it. Take your middle-school and high school children to see it. Pursue the questions that come up and learn as a family.
