Review of In the Heart of the Sea (2015) by Greg B — 14 Dec 2015
"In the heart of the sea" is based on true events that were the inspiration for Herman Melvile's epic "Moby Dick." In the film, Chris Hemsworth plays a first mate on a ship called The Essex, a whaling ship conscripted to hunt down whales and bring back their blubber.
On this fateful journey, The Essex encounters a massive whale that it bent on destroying their ship. While I applaud this movie as an authentic period piece, I also found it incredibly sluggish and uneven.
Many parts of the film drag almost to an unbearable pace. The pacing is uneven and this film has a hard time deciding what kind of film it wants to be. The special effects are also underwhelming and the dragging of the plot makes parts almost unbearable to watch ----------------------------------------- C.
