Part of the problem is that I couldn't feel sympathy for the sailors as they were whale killers, so I just wanted the whale to kill them when he was on screen, so that takes any excitement away from the action sequences, which were also few and far between.

The whale isn't on screen very much, I couldn't always understand Hemsworth and the 3D was amateur - if they stuck another lantern or rope in the way I was going to poke my own eyes out. The effects were also drab and boring and unimpressive.

But as mentioned earlier, the most problematic issue for me was the fact that I had zero sympathy for any of the human characters and their abhorrent job which left me cold.
