Review of In the Heart of the Sea (2015) by Sean C — 03 Jan 2016
The first half, which details whaling, is gripping. The trouble comes after the Essex sinks. The plot meanders, never quite sure if it is an adventure, meditation, or a rehash of Moby Dick/Jaws. End result is hardly terrible, but this is a film that clearly could have been and should have been great.
Mostly, it is because the film falls for some pretty tepid cliches at the end.
