Review of In the Heart of the Sea (2015) by Chris O — 30 Jan 2016
In one review the writer says the film is predictable. How exactly do you make a well known story unpredictable. Try saying something intelligent and meaningful if you insist on writing reviews.
Having seen countless films in this genre I don't expect unpredictability. What I expect is a well told story with good acting. That we now have the technical wizardry to amp up the production so that it appears entirely real is a side benefit.
So, without going into all the bluster and erudition some have attempted, I'll just say it's a film well worth seeing.
The young cabin boy/newbie sailor is well played by young Tom Holland, and Chris Hemsworth gave a creditable performance as the first mate. There were times, up until the ship sank, that I thought Benjamin Walker was chewing the scenery a bit much, but that may simply because I've seen too many nasty ships captains over the years. There's a fine line between bullying and being privileged, where noblesse oblige should come into play. He seemed more of the spoiled brat.
