Review of In the Heart of the Sea (2015) by Michael S — 12 Dec 2015
Terrible. Any review that gives this more that 1 star is a reviewer you should ignore from here on out. Chris Hemsworth makes Keneau Reeves look like Anthony Hopkins in comparison. The framing is bad. The CGI .
..you can almost SEE the actors in front of the green screen. It was while watching this I realised that the CGI of today is the stop motion puppetry of tommorrow in terms of how fakey it looked. The soundtrack is WAAAY over the top, almost screaming to you that THIS IS AN IMPORTANT MOVIE!.
Have to call this one one of the worst big budget movies I have ever seen. I also read the book, which was gritty and intimate tale of survival via cannibalism at sea, something the movie almost completely ignores.
That being the case, why make the movie if you dont have the balls to tell the story? It seems the only thing they could focus on was the whale story, which they expanded and embellished to have the whale follow the life boats.
Just a perfect of example of movie making by corporate decision. Made me lose faith in Ron Howard as a director.
