I've never had occasion to read any of Jamie Lee Burke's books so there is no Dave mythology for me to fall back on when watching this film. As it turns out, this was no impediment. Jones delivers as the noir style/good ole boy with smarts detective tracking a killer in Louisiana.
Goodman and Vince do fine work as well. While I truly loved the moments where the film waxed philosophical and the Shakespearian dialogue from Hood, I couldn't help but think that it really interrupted the flow of the film.
