Review of In the Bedroom (2001) by Scott K — 29 Nov 2007
As ridiculously over-rated as "Mystic River", "In The Bedroom" (which refers to two lobsters who can't get along in a lobster trap) is a competently acted, very slow, and in the end, very empty family-murder drama.
I hate to break this to everyone, but you need more than New England accents to add depth to a story. Punches are pulled left and right in this very distant, made-for-TVesque plot. It was like attending a very uptight family dinner.
William Mapother's portrayal of a sleazy, violent husband is the most enjoyable part of this film...it reminded me of an Owen Wilson gone horribly to seed. Otherwise, this film left me shrugging and twirling my finger.
